DO YOU / YOUR LOVED ONES NEED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES?

Let us help you live your life to its fullest while meeting your personal needs and interests regardless of your health condition or disability.

We, at A Touch of Hope OT, focus on your capabilities rather than your limitations.

STRUGGLING WITH SELF-CARE TASKS

Over time, simple daily tasks of your personal needs, including brushing your teeth, preparing meals, housekeeping, showering, buttoning shirts, grooming, self-feeding, doing laundry, walking within your house, or using the toilet, might become more challenging than they previously were due to aging, illness, or injury.

MUSCLE WEAKNESS, PAIN, & STIFFNESS

Individuals who present with general muscle weakness and Joint stiffness would be educated and trained on therapeutic exercises and activities that help to improve range of motion, develop physical strength, endurance, activity tolerance, and Joint mobility. Addressing pain early is the best way to prevent a concern from becoming more unbearable.

HAND & WRIST CONDITIONS

Joint Arthritis (OA & RA)/ Carpal tunnel syndrome/ De-Quervain’s Tenosynovitis/ Trigger finger/ Ortho Post-op / Peripheral Nerve injuries/ Fractures

We use our hands throughout the day in all activities. Individuals experiencing physical difficulties or pain in the hands may struggle with holding and using a toothbrush, silverware, hairbrush, or writing tools throughout their daily routine. Hand conditions may impact the ability to hold your phone, open jars, turn knobs to open doors, turn a key, manipulate objects within the hand, and perform hand coordination. Frequently dropped objects could be due to experiencing tingling and numbness in the hands secondary to a type of hand & wrist condition and not because of clumsiness.

SHOULDER & ELBOW CONDITIONS

Shoulder Impingement syndrome/ Rotator Cuff Injuries/ Biceps Tendonitis, Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow) / Medial Epicondylitis (Golf Elbow)

Is it difficult for you to reach overhead or toward an object, lift and hold things in your everyday routine, get dressed, bathe your back, and drive?  Getting to the root cause of your pain resulting from repetitive stress, wear & tear, or a specific injury is the key to determining and solving your condition.

Different types of jobs and labor, sports, and hobbies that require repetitive movements to the elbow or shoulder may lead to injuries, pain, numbness, and dysfunction.

We, at A Touch of Hope OT, have extensive training and experience treating various types of pain and injuries to the upper extremities.

  • FEAR OF FALLING AND IMBALANCE

If you find yourself needing to hold onto a towel rack or furniture while standing or walking in your house, you may have balance challenges and a fear of falling. Being educated and trained on injury prevention strategies, proper posture, pacing tasks, and body awareness may decrease fractured bones and hospital visits as well as increase overall independence.

  • CVA (Stroke) / Parkinson's Disease (PD)

Individuals with CVA (Stroke) and Parkinson's Disease may experience difficulties with turning and moving part of the body, increased stiffness, taking the first step to begin walking, “feeling stuck” when getting up from a chair, difficulty with manual dexterity, coordination, the appearance of tremors in PD, poor endurance with overall fatigue, and being slow and messy in eating and drinking.

Those who lack body awareness (Stroke) due to affected-side neglect would benefit from visual scanning training, affected limb activation, mental imagery, trunk flexibility, and sensory stimulation.

  • DEMENTIA

If your loved one presents with a slowing thinking process, repetition of the same sentence over and over, short-term memory impairment and difficulty with recalling recent information, being agitated and aggressive, reduced concentration and attention span, reduced motivation to engage in meaningful activities, confusion, not being capable of maintaining their own safety, he or she might struggle with cognitive impairments. Besides supporting individuals with Dementia with their activities of daily living, A Touch of Hope OT mainly provides guidance, education, and training to caregivers to ease their care burden and stress.

Remember, even if you are unable to do something the way you used to, it doesn’t mean you cannot perform it at all. Learning new techniques to overcome your daily challenges and struggles is our expertise at A Touch of Hope OT.
